How to Layer Acids

Acids like AHA, BHA, and PHA are powerful for exfoliation, brightening, and improving skin texture,  but proper layering is crucial to avoid irritation and maximize results.  Explore our Exfoliating Acids Collection for K-Beauty acid treatments.

Types of Acids

  • AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid): Great for surface exfoliation and brightening (e.g., glycolic, lactic acid).
  •
  • BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid): Oil-soluble, penetrates pores to remove sebum (e.g., salicylic acid).
  •
  • PHA (Poly Hydroxy Acid): Gentle exfoliation, ideal for sensitive skin.

Layering Rules

  1. Start Slow: Use acids 2–3 times per week to build tolerance.
  2.
  3. Apply After Cleansing: Use acids after your oil cleanser and        water-based cleanser.
  4.
  5. Wait Time: Let the acid absorb for 1–2 minutes before layering hydrating products.
  6.
  7. Moisturize: Follow with moisturizers or        rich creams.
  8.
  9. SPF Protection: Always use SPF during the day.

Do's & Don'ts

  • Do not layer AHA and retinol in the same routine.
  •
  • Do not mix high-strength Vitamin C and strong acids together.
  •
  • Hydrate well with Hyaluronic Acid after using acids.

Pro Tip

If you’re new to acids, try PHA or low-concentration AHA before moving on to stronger treatments.
